Overview

There is a fusion power generator deep in the city. Most of it is underground but there is an above ground wireless distribution building. It is too heavily fortified to easily destroy with ground attack. Access codes are held in outlying buildings.

Background

Timeline: Week 3 of UCM Invasion of New Varanasi.There is a crucial fusion power generator deep in the city. Most of it is underground but there is an above ground wireless distribution building. It is too heavily fortified to easily destroy with ground attack. It is locked and unmanned but the access codes are held in outlying buildings.

Military Aims

UCM, Scourge - Get access codes and hold the building to power portable anti-orbital units.

PHR, Ferals - Get the access codes and hold the building to later destroy the generator.

Shaltari - Get the access codes and hold the building to power heavy ground gates.

Allied Resistance - Get the access codes and hold the building to hand over to UCM.

Mission Criteria

The central power generator is a Focal point. You measure 6” to any edge of the feature. There are two objectives in Large buildings along the centre line.

Table Setup

 Place 14 x Armour 6 buildings on a 4’ by 4’ table.

 2 x Large (40 DPs), 4 x Small (10 DPs), 8 x Normal (20 DPs).

 The two Large buildings will be placed across the centre line evenly with Objectives inside.

 The generator building will be an impassable terrain feature 1” high (A8 80 DPs).

 Place it in the centre. Scatter some other terrain around the table fairly.

Table Rules

 If you hold or extract both objectives, you can unlock the generator building and enter it with Infantry type units.

League Points

 Destroy a Large Building = 1 LP

 If your faction wants to destroy the generator and you do it = 5 LPs

 If your faction wants to keep the generator and you get infantry inside at end = 5 LPs

Deployment - PHR

Since the other factions had to acquire both objectives to enter the power generator, the idea was to deny it. Menchit was headed to one objective buildings and both Immortal squads to grab the objective from the other large building. The remaining forces were to control the central area and inflict casualties as possible, heading to the focal point on the last turns.

Turn 1 (PHR)

Won initiative and left infantry and Flamer for last. I wanted to see where the Shaltari were headed. First group deployed was the Heavies (2x Odin) going on the other flank as the the Ocelot & Dreamsnare. Second deployment was two Phobos, using a large wide building for cover against the Ocelot. Third deployment was the Command BG, Zeus + Odin & 2 Janus. Janus went right flank to cover the Heavies and possibly the Menchit. Zeus & Odin went left flank to get some cover and close to the center. Infantry and Menchit went each to a Obj building. Infantry not deploying, Menchit on the ground.

Turn 2 (PHR)

Won initiative again. Imediately sent the Immortal squad #1 into the Large Building. Shaltari reply was heavy fire on the building from the Ocelot, damaging it for 6. One Immortal squad took 1 hit of faling masonry.

After Brave squad #1 entered right flank large Obj building, the Menchit were activated. 9 inch range is nice, and they made 5 hits on the Braves. A lone Brave warrior survived and became the Man of the Match.

Turn 3 (PHR)

Won initiative again. Finishing the lone Brave was not a priority, as it had a low chance of finding the Obj (Only 6). So PHR concentrated fire on the Ocelot. Zeus + Odin hit with 3 shots, 2 conected, both did 2dp. Ocelot was gone!Lone Brave found the Obj on right flank large building! Lucky bastard called for the Spirit and gated to safety. Leaving the Obj attached on the Spirit, 1" on the back of the tallest building.Other units advanced.

Turn 4 (PHR)

Lost initiate, used a card to re-roll it and then won. Burned all my cards to hope for a Experimental Gyros. Got it! Advanced the Phobos 5" to get in range of the Obj carrying Spirit! No LOS!!! The "dish" on the energy complex blocked the LOS. Phobos fired on a Kukri, destroying it instead.Zeus+Odin fired on a tarantula and killed it. Other Brave squad entered the left flank Obj building (the one with both Immortals). Forces continued to move closer to the center energy complex.

Lost initiative. Immortal squad 1 found the Objective. CQB is started, and the strongest Immortal squad stays. The other Immortal squad boards the Triton and start it's journey to PHR side. Heavies fire railguns on Dreamwaver, destroying it. CQB results are in favor of the Shaltari. PHR stays with 6 men, Shaltari with 5.

Lost initiative. Shaltari teleport his Coyote closer to the focal point. Immortal Squad gets the Obj out for 2VP*s. Tarantula kills Odin close to Zeus. CQB results, Shaltari with 2, PHR with 4, both passed morale checks.

Man of the Match - Lone Brave (Ranger)

After having his squad burn to crisp by two Menchit, the lone Brave warrior quickly found the objective and gated himself out of the battlefield! +2VP for the Shaltari

BFU - Close Infinite

Shaltari wanted a better field of view for his infinite range Ocelot. Advancing him forward on Turns 1&2. Early by turn 3, Zeus group (+1 Odin) got the Ocelot into their railguns range and concentrated fire on it. Ocelot was destroyed after having done only one shot on turn 2, causing 8 points of damage on a large objective building.

Final Summary

Close game. PHR made 4VP (2 objective, 2 focal point) Shaltari did 3 VP (2 objective, 1 Focal point). PHR made 350 Kill points, Shaltari 227. Tournament was 12-08.

Menchit can be very devastating against infantry inside buildings. PHR firepower showed itself gloriously on this combat, even though the Shaltari shields were strong.
